Designed specifically for the non-math major who will be using calculus in business, economics, or life and social science courses, Calculus: An Applied Approach, 6/e, offers students added structure and guidance on how to study math. Special student-success-oriented sections include chapter-opening Strategies for Success; What You Should Learn—and Why You Should Learn It; Section Objectives; Chapter Summaries and Study Strategies; Try Its; Study Tips; and Warm-Up exercises. In addition the text presents Algebra Tips at point of use and Algebra Review at the end of each chapter.Enhancing the already strong emphasis on practical applications, this text makes the course more relevant to students by including updated and increased coverage of technology at point of use and sample post-graduation exam questions.Chapter Openers and Section Objectives help orient students to the key concepts that follow.More business applications have been included to meet the needs of students taking this course. In addition, Business Capsules and accompanying exercises at the end of numerous sections introduce business situations that illustrate the mathematical concepts covered in the chapter.Try It exercises appear after every example to help students reinforce concepts right after they are presented.Technology Notes—sidebars on technology—have been added to illustrate such technology topics as spreadsheet use.Take Another Look poses questions before each section exercise set, prompting students to look back at one or more concepts presented in the section to enhance their understanding.Abundant exercises from disciplines across the curriculum—nearly 6,000 in all—progress from skill-development problems to more challenging, real-world application questions. Warm-Up exercises (with answers at the back of the text) at the beginning of each exercise set review skills covered in previous sections. Answers to all odd-numbered exercises are included in the back of the text. Review Exercises at the end of each chapter offer students an opportunity for additional practice.Every chapter concludes with sample questions representative of the types of questions on various standardized tests (i.e. GMAT, CPA exams, GRE, College Level Academic Skills Test).Integrated—but optional--use of a graphing utility, computer algebra system, or spreadsheet as a tool for exploration, discovery, and problem solving encourages students to execute computations and programs, to visualize theoretical concepts, to discover alternative approaches, and to verify the results of other solution methods using technology.
